FALSE PROPHETS, BEWARE!

                                                     FALSE PROPHETS, BEWARE!

Jeremiah 23 vs. 26 – 32

“How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal. The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? Saith the Lord. Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces? Therefore, behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that steal my words everyone from his neighbour. Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the Lord, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the Lord.”

I am sure that this is an usual introduction because it comes from a scripture which sounds a warning and a curse as well.  So I would not be surprised if you are wondering what this is about. I would say that if you can have the time to read this piece, you would understand the message therein and I am very sure that it would bless you as it has blessed me.  The scripture quoted above was a warning from God through his Prophet Jeremiah to lying Prophets in Israel who claimed the Lord spoke to them when he did not. Their intention was simply to deceive and take advantage of the people. The lies of those prophets brought untold hardship to the Israeli nation which included the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonian King, Nebuchadnezzar and the exile of the King of Judah and others to Babylonia according to the prophecy of Jeremiah.

Truthbetold; Just as we had false prophets in the days of Jeremiah, we also have even more false prophets in our time who are twisting the word to their advantage by making merchandise of the people of God. Apostle Peter prophesied about them and we can see them practicing their craft all over the place.

2 Peter 2 vs. 1 – 3

“But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”

What Apostle Peter said is already happening. False teachers who claim they are prophets of God are everywhere deceiving the ignorant. So the same warning that was issued to the people of old is also coming to us who today profess the name of Jesus Christ as our Lord and saviour.  As children of God, it is important to bear in mind that in whatever we do in life, we must never forget that the God we serve is the God of truth who holds His name in very high esteem.  It is therefore very important that we do not loose sight of the fact that God will never let anyone who drags his holy name to the mud go unpunished. It is also important that we do not forget that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. This therefore means that a wise person is the one who fears the Lord and do his will, which includes speaking the truth at all times, especially when the person speaks in the name of the Lord.

In this piece, I would be dealing with what I call, “Lies in the church”. The essence is to expose some of the errors going on in the body of Christ via the internet specifically in the area of prophecy in order to help brethren avoid the punishment that usually comes with certain such. Therefore, this piece has been written for both those who prophesy in the name of the Lord as well those seeking prophecy from the Lord.

We all know that God is Truth and His word is Truth. We also know that Satan is the Father of all lies and his word is nothing but lies. Since Satan is out to deceive and put people in bondage, he is busy faking everything God does in order to deceive the ignorant and the dull in the spirit.

Truthbetold; in these last days, one secret strategy the devil is using seriously to deceive Christians or would I say church goers is prophecy. Prophecy is so important to Christians because it reveals the mind of God to his children. From time immemorial, the Lord has always spoken to His children through the mouth of His prophets. Even the coming of the Saviour was prophesied by the prophets of old. A very outstanding prophecy about the coming of the Messiah was given by the prophet Isaiah.

Isa 9:6-7

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

This prophecy was fulfilled so many years after Prophet Isaiah was dead and gone, yet the Lord still made sure it came to pass. According to some Bible scholars, the prophecy of Isaiah about the birth of Jesus Christ took about five hundred years or so before it came to pass.  And because the mouth of the Lord had already spoken it through His prophet, nothing could stop it; not even time could overtake what the Lord had said through His Prophet. Prophecy is such an important means of communication between God and man that Prophet Amos recorded that the Lord does nothing without revealing it to his prophets.

Amos 3 vs. 7

“Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”

That shows you how much the Lord values His prophets; telling them His plans before they are executed. It is also important to say that the Lord speaks to His prophets for the benefit of His chosen ones. That means that every true prophecy is the word of God.  That means that we receive true prophecies when we seek God genuinely. It is therefore very important that every child of God gets the accurate knowledge of who God is through His word. And this we can do only by seeking God. Isaiah tells us the need to seek God as follows:

Isaiah 55 vs.6-7

“Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.”

We are to forsake evil and wickedness. We are to shun evil thoughts and follow righteousness. This message is important for all children of God, especially for prophets who are the mouth piece of God. Unfortunately, we have more false prophets in church today than true Prophets of God. Interestingly, majority of these false prophets have chosen the internet as their place of operation. This is understandable because on the internet, these false prophets are not accountable to anyone. The internet has become a form of virtual church where they can do whatever they like without being questioned by anyone. They are their own masters. So anything goes as far as they are concerned. This is dangerous, extremely dangerous.

Truthbetold; false prophets are thriving because of the prosperity message which has taken over the real message of God in the church. Like you and I know, prosperity message has almost sacked salvation message from the church. It is a dangerous trend and many would pay dearly for it. Don’t be one of them. This is a warning to save your soul from hell. Don’t sell your soul to the devil by running after false internet Prophets whose mission is to deceive and destroy. If you become a victim, you would have yourself and no one else to blame.

Truthbetold; this post does not condemn prophecy or the prophetic ministry in anyway. My sole intention is to sensitize people on the level at which false prophets have taken over the church and the internet so they can beware of them. I must also let you know that notwithstanding the activities of these false prophets, we also have very genuine, God fearing Prophets of God both in the church and on the internet. I have met some of them and I make bold to say that I have been blessed by their ministries. Going back to the issue of prophecy, I want to say that prophecy is good. It speaks the mind of God to us and gives us direction. The Bible tells us that prophecy edifies, exhorts and comforts the receiver.

1 Corinthians 14 vs. 3

“But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.”

Prophecy is very important in the life of believers. To edify means to enlighten, instruct, build up etc.  To exhort is to encourage, push, press, etc. Comfort means to reassure, console, soothe, etc. Considering the above, we understand that God has designed Prophecy to help us in times of need. Hopes are restored through prophecy. Encouragement is given through prophecy and the strength to press on is also given through prophecy. I am a living witness to the power of prophecy in the life of a believer and every true believer can attest to what I am saying. Even last night, I received a prophecy on a Christian Facebook group that encouraged me and assured me that God is solidly behind my ministry.

Truthbetold; When we are in trouble or confused or may be losing hope or direction, God speaks to us through prophecy. So, I make bold to say that it is demonic for anyone to discard prophecy. If you belong to any of those churches that say they don’t believe in prophecies, then you are surely in the wrong place because such declaration is against the word of God. You have to listen to the voice of God and not of man. Even the Apostle Paul warned us not to despise prophecies.

1 Thessalonians 5 vs. 20

“Despise not prophesyings.”

That tells us how important Prophecy is.  May I say again, that the importance of prophecy can never be over emphasized. The church is in dire need of prophecy. Anyone who is against prophecy is certainly against God himself, because God is the one who speaks the prophetic word to his children through his Prophets. We must however understand that our salvation does not lie in prophecy, neither does our future. Yes, God gives insight into the future through prophecy, but it is not what gives us salvation. The word of God is what is paramount in the life of a believer. Prophecy itself comes out of the word of God. That is why any prophecy that contradicts the word of God must be discarded immediately. Prophecy helps us stay focused and draws us closer to God since it reveals the mind of God. But the ultimate solution to all our problems lies in the word of God which might come to us also in the form of prophecy. But no matter what, we must seek God first of all things. In seeking God, we would have his word in us so we don’t get deceived by false prophets who are all over the place seeking whom to deceive.

Truthbetold; majority of today’s Christians are more interested in prophecies than in the word of God.  This is a very dangerous trend because such people are constantly being deceived by false prophets.  Without the word of God in us, a false prophecy from a false prophet will sound like the voice of God and this is very dangerous and must be avoided at all costs. There is no formula to knowing the voice of God other than seeking the Lord himself.  A true child of God recognizes the voice of God and follows Him. Even the Lord Jesus Himself said that His sheep hears His voice and follows Him.

John 10 vs. 27 – 28

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”

Truthbetold; they are many people in church today who have not had any encounter with the Lord. Such people cannot differentiate the voice of God from the voice of Satan. Both voices are the same to them. In fact, such people hear the voice of Satan more than the voice of God. This is because the voice of Satan excites the flesh and such people are always in the flesh which makes it easier for them to hear Satan more than they can hear God. It is such people who have become victims in the hands of false prophets. Anybody who cannot know the true voice of God is certainly not a child of God. According to the Bible, the word of God is God Himself and we know that this is true.

So understand that God does not joke with what proceeds out of His mouth. Neither will he take it kindly with those who speak falsehood in his name. So be careful who is speaking into your lives. If you claim to be a prophet, be careful what you speak to the people of God. Remember, God knows His true prophets as much as He knows the false prophets. He will surely pay everyone according to His work. Make no mistakes, God is never mocked; what you sow, you will surely reap at that appointed time.
